Our Staff
Cheryl Rose, Executive Director
Before accepting a position at the University of Guelph, Cheryl Rose gained professional experience in community development and volunteer management for non-profit organisations. Her passion for civic engagement and her strong belief in the power of students to work for social change, has contributed over a number of years to her role as the Citizenship and Leadership Educator on the Guelph campus. In this professional capacity, she has been responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a number of community service-learning initiatives.
As a founding member of the national steering committee, which successfully worked to establish the Canadian Alliance for Community Service-Learning, she is very pleased and excited to assume the role of Executive Director. You may contact Cheryl, at cheryl@communityservicelearning.ca.
Emilie Hayes, Education and Communication Manager
Between 2001 and 2005, Emilie coordinated co-curricular CSL programs at the University of Guelph as the Experiential Education Specialist. In 2005, she departed the U of G to pursue graduate work in sociology at Carleton University with a research focus on citizenship theory and education. While studying at Carleton, she had the opportunity to participate in a range of interesting initiatives in the non-profit sector and remained actively involved in the work of CACSL as the lead researcher and author of Community Service-Learning in Canada: A Scan of the Field, compiled an annotated CSL bibliography for CACSL, and assisted in the research study to develop CACSL’s communications plan for the non-profit sector.
