The faculty or staff person(s) in a community service-learning (CSL) program represents the college/university.
Role:
- Lead educator
- CSL specialist when no other person is available
Course/Program Responsibilities:
- Designs course/program, including learning goals and evaluation methods
- Integrates concepts of citizenship and social awareness into academic component
- Guides students as they take part in a community organization’s activities
- Establishes ways in which students can reflect on their community organization experience and connect it to their academic learning.
CSL Responsibilities
- Fosters relationships with community organizations for current and future service-learning programs.
- Explores ways to involve community organization staff as co-educators.
